My friend Laura Joh Rowland, author of the Sano Ichiro mystery series, has promised to be a guest blogger on Sphinx Ink. However, this week she's proofing galleys for a new book and hasn't time to send an article--instead she sent a photo from her recent trip to China, with a little comment:
Hi, Sphinx Ink, Thank you for inviting me to be a guest on your blog.
Last month I went to China, my first time since 1978. I found it spectacularly transformed. (For more on that subject, check my website at http://www.laurajohrowland.com, where I'll be posting a photo essay about my trip.) Here's a picture of me cruising the Li River in Guilin.

Laura's newest book in the Sano Ichiro series,
The Snow Empress, was released earlier this month, and has garnered kudos and honors--
Publishers Weekly not only gave it a
starred review, but also named it one of the
best books of 2007.
PW says, "
Demonstrating an impressive level of sustained excellence, Rowland’s mysteries set in 17th-century Japan form one of the best recent series in the genre.... Compelling pacing and well-rounded characters enhance the intriguing plot and will draw in new readers as well as longtime fans."In addition,
PW published an interview with Laura on September 24, 2007, which you can read via this
link.

That's cool. Great pic. I'll have to check out the link to more.
Laura has also kindly agreed to be on my blog. That will be in December. I'm looking forward to hearing more about what she has to say.
That came out rather garbled. I'm looking forward to her appearance on your blog and will reference it in her interview on my blog when it appears.
Did you feel as chilly as I did reading about all that snow? Perhaps not, since you're lucky enough not to have lived in a place that cold and don't have memories to supplement Laura's description.
Many ages ago when I was still a newspaper reporter I interviewed her when her first book came out. Time flies.
Sphinx Ink, I've tagged you with a meme. Details at my blog in today's entry.
Charles, I just checked again and Laura hasn't posted her travel pictures on her website yet....She's still working on the galleys of the Bronte book, I expect.
Shauna, as you know, Laura comes up with excellent topics and always produces valuable information on them. I too look forward to seeing what she writes for your blog.
Sidney, how interesting (and coincidental) that you interviewed Laura way back when Shinju came out. I'd love to read the interview if it's online or otherwise easily available.
