Resolutions

These are my New Year's Resolutions for 2008:
1. I will be kinder to myself.
2. I will procrastinate less.
These don't fit good goal-setting criteria--the S.M.A.R.T. system of making objectives that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. I've also already violated Resolution No. 2, to procrastinate less, because in my December 31 entry I said I would post my resolutions the next day (January 1), and here it is January 6 and I'm just getting them onto the blog.

The good thing about these resolutions, however, is that despite having violated No. 2, I won't castigate myself or feel guilty, because of Resolution No. 1: I'm being kinder to myself...kinder by setting these resolutions, which are vague, not measurable, not at all time-bound, yet mostly realistic, and surely attainable.

Oh, and I'll add a third one:
3. I will laugh more.
Speaking of which, go here for a humorous take on possible New Year's resolutions in the SciFi publishing world. The image above is taken from that same web page, owned by WSFA, the Washington Science Fiction Association.

So there. Whew. Done.
